  1. I’ll never forget driving through hot, dry, dusty farm country west of Stockton California and seeing huge ocean going freighters cruising in the middle of it. Turns out, Stockton is a seaport town via the San Joaquin river.


  2. I went and watched a ship tranist the locks at Sault Ste. Marie (also known as the Soo Locks) one time. It was impressive and its all done with gravity flow.


  3. Never seen a lock, even though I’ve lived near them in England. I was only 5 years old, but at least I got to see live steam engines in action, even got to see a head-on with two locomotives!!

    Sure I know how they work, but it would be fun to actually SEE one in action!
