If CONgress Cuts Loose With The $2000 Stimulus Checks I May Skip The Middle Man And Give Some Straight To The Chinese

How UnPatriotic of me.

The Wifely Unit is also less than amused as you can imagine.

I have been wanting a Mini Mill for about four years now and I stumbled across this last night while doing some window shopping at Grizzly.com.

Grizzly G0727 – 5″ x 18″ 1/2 HP Mini Horizontal/Vertical Mill

View (2) Reviews$1,098.00+$129.00 Freight

  • Motor size: 1/2 HP
  • Table size: 18-1/8″ x 4-3/4″
  • Longitudinal travel: 11-7/8″
  • Cross travel: 3-11/16″
  • Spindle taper: R-8
  • Number of speeds: Variable
  • Max spindle to table distance: 6-1/2″
  • Max spindle to column distance: 12-7/8″
  • Shipping weight: 268 lbs.

Interesting, no?

You can take the motor and drive mechanism off and go from a Horizontal milling machine to a more conventional overhead Milling Machine.

The top slides back and forth and the head swivels .

In stock and only $1100 plus about $130 shipping.

They had a huge sale over the holidays and all of their conventional column mini mills are out of stock and back ordered from the Land of Bat Soup.

Not so with this particular model, plus it’s about $500 cheaper than the other one I was looking at and more versatile to boot.

Ah well, a guy can dream can’t he?

A huge cash outlay and the resulting marital discord may not be the wisest move at this particular point in time, if ever.

Dammit.

Speaking of stimulus checks, the Wifley Unit just informed me that The Kid already got $600.

I told her if they show up in our account to stick it in the savings.

I keep hearing it’s going to be a Dark Winter.

In the mean time I have a friend of mine trying to make me a wider base for the tail stock on that damn Mini Lathe in his spare time. I gave him the spare base to use for measurements.

That little fucker will keep me busy the rest of my natural life just trying to make it work like it should anyway.

UPDATED:

Well, it was a nice dream anyway.

GOP-led Senate rejects vote on $2,000 stimulus checks
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell shut the door on President Trump’s push for $2,000 COVID-19 relief checks, declaring Congress has provided enough pandemic aid as he blocked another attempt by Democrats to force a vote.

The GOP leader made clear he is unwilling to budge, despite political pressure from Trump and even some fellow Republican senators who demanded a vote. McConnell’s refusal to act means the additional relief is all but dead.

  1. I hear ya…I have outfitted my shop with a few chyna made items all needed upgrades and alterations to be really usable. I have a small chyna vertical mill variable speed R8 taper good for
small work and light milling..my full size mill is a Marena 10X48 made in East Hartford, CT. I have a chyna bandsaw for wood and a chyna bandsaw for metal as well as a disk/belt sander combo made by the ccp slaves. My lathes are SBL a 13″ made in 1934 and a 9″ made in 1967, Rhodes Shaper made in 19teens, Harig 12″ Surface grinder teflon ways. I have found all of my stuff locally or at least withing 250 iles if it was worth the drive…I do not like giving anything to the ccp…look around there can be some decent deals…Here is one I found that would be a fund restoration..obviously the seller knows nothing about this machine as it’s head is adjustable and can be used horizontal/ vertical and everything in between…I do not know the Model # but ran one of these in a shop years ago. If I were in the market I’d offer him $150 take it or leave it…he’d take it…Good luck with you decision, please consider a nice old used American made machine..

    • I scour my local Craigslist religiously looking for an older American made mini mill.
They are hard to come by around here and everyone thinks they are made of gold.

  2. I got a benchtop planer for Christmas, in theroy it is made in Taiwan, either way it is not the shit that harbor frieght has on the shelf. I am of the opinion that it is money well spent.

  3. Grizzly has decent tools for the price. As my brother put it, out of the box you think of it as a kit. It takes some assembly and tweaking to turn it into a precision tool. After your post on scraping steel, I’ve no doubt you’re up to the task Phil.

    • 😂 I’m hip to that shit already. If I had to guess I’d say I probably have at least four times as much money in tooling and accessories for that fucking mini lathe than it cost and the ratio of me having to fuck with it and fix shit on it compared to actually using it has to be ten to one.

  4. I’m kinda thinking here Phil you could put that $2000 to better use buying a used Bridgeport or South Bend or something similar.Anything but throwing more $ to chinkistan. There is some (JET I believe) that is made in Taiwan, which I sorta support (until they get swallowed up by the ccp powers.
FWIW dept, about 6-7 years ago I used to do some bidnesss with Grizzley out of Bellingham, they had some great prices. Till they went into the ammo bidness and I tried to buy ammo from em. The shipping address was in Warshington but the billing address was where I worked at the time, in So. Kalifukinornia around the oil fields. Refused to ship it to the wa address cause the billing address wasn’t the same and won’t ship to ca. Can U say bout fuking retarded as beijing Joe…. Still refuse to buy anything from the sorry fuks..
