  1. If that is made of glass, not too surprising. The center of the target was relatively soft, so instead of the glass breaking, it absorbed enough of the velocity to prevent that.
    Compressibility of material, and all that Engineering rot. Studied it in Strength of Materials class.

    Same principle of a 2×4 (or even a toothpick or straw) being stuck in something that would ordinarily break it, because it went in on-axis instead of sideways.Compression is sometimes interesting…


  2. Besides everyone analysing it, does anyone else get like the “Monty Python Random Shit” vibe about that? Like “Here’s a stump, and a back yard………….. WHACK!!!……. here’s a random glass now embedded in the stump.”
