Holy Moly what a find.
Although I really wouldn’t call this a “restoration” in the true sense of the word it does look better in the end.
I have never seen a vise like this that you have to adjust the “fixed” jaw height in the back to even the jaws up as you open it up more but it sure is cool.
You can skip towards the end to see what I am talking about.
I would bet money that is a military design for a ship. I am thinking a repair ship from WWII. The mounting plate is big and has a ton of holes which to me says it was riveted to a deck where if it were to be floor mounted it would have a heavy cast cradle and 4 or 6 mounting holes.

Never saw a vise quite like that. Pretty cool the way he made some new jaw faces for it!

His restorations, especially any like restoring an old wooden wheelbarrow, are amazing. And he mostly uses hand tools and stuff that normal people have access to.
Now, Fireball Tools made a friggin tank of a new vice, but he has all the nice tools that us normies don’t have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUJbz9Ih13Y&t=840s

Ah, crap-in-a-hat. Got Black Beard mixed up with LABD, who is the one who does really nice restoration work on wheelbarrows and is in France.
Black Beard also does really great rebuilds and restorations and cleanups.
And I suspect this vice is most likely railroad related.

I follow them both.
If you want to see some shit, watch this Russian guy restore an anvil.
I was very impressed. I also want that little stove he has!

Oh yeah, the chain saw you will see in this video?
He completely restored that too. That is another one totally worth watching. The guy has some skills.

Do you ever visit AOSHQ – http://ace.mu.nu/ ? I think you will appreciate his “Saturday Night Joke” — here is one of the lines in it:
DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to it.

Yeah, I’ve seen that a dozen times, it’s been around for years.
