I saw this yesterday on my phone. I have some HF Jack Stands and you can bet your Bippy I went out and checked them against the information I saw.
According to them, the 3 ton HD Jack Stands I have ARE NOT part of the lot that is being recalled. They are silver, do not have the affected part number and the 3 ton stands they are recalling were painted Red.
I also have some small RED jack stands that all of the stickers are gone off of but when I inspected them I found that they are in fact only rated for two tons.
Follow the instructions below and if you do in fact have some of these stands then take them directly to the nearest Harbor Freight store. They will give you a gift card loaded with the original purchase price of the stands and you DO NOT NEED A RECEIPT!
3 Ton and 6 Ton Heavy Duty Steel Jack Stands item numbers 56371, 61196, and 61197
For certain units of the Pittsburgh Automotive 3 Ton and 6 Ton Heavy Duty Steel Jack Stands
there is a potential, while under load and with a shift in weight, for the pawl to disengage from
the extension lifting post, allowing the stand to drop suddenly. This condition could cause
serious injury for people near or under a lifted vehicle, and/or damage to property.
STOP USING THESE JACK STANDS IMMEDIATELY!
Here is a link to a PDF file that has pictures showing you how to identify these Jack Stands.
Here is a somewhat annoying Youtube video explaining it.
