Still The Greatest Country On The Planet

Ever notice you never heard of anyone going to China and raving about the Chop Suey?

Here are some quotes from Non Americans who came here, tried some of our food and want to take it back with them.

Nothing too special here either mind you.

“Growing up in India, I met a man who had been to America. He told me when I got to America, try this thing called a “Chili dog”… it’s amazing, he said.”

“A Big. Fucking. Burger. (Aussie currently in the US eating as many burgers as I can)”

“Texas Brisket.

I visited Austin, TX last summer and have seriously considered moving there to be near the brisket.”

“Burgers. Ribs. Hot dogs.

I love your heart disease food.”

Yeah, we’re kind of partial to it ourselves.

Then someone let slip our best kept secret.

24 hour breakfast joints.

waffle house

“I went to the US for a course once, and then after we closed for the day we went drinking, and after we were rather happy we ended up at a 24/7 place called Waffle House.

It is my spiritual home. When I die and go to heaven, that is where you will find me.”

There is an old saying that over the years I have found to be completely true.

The prices have changed but you’ll get the idea.

“A five dollar breakfast will ruin a hunnert dollar drunk every time”.

That ain’t no joke.

Waffle House, Denny’s, Shari’s, IHOP, they have all ruined a few good drunks in years past.

There was always something special about Hash Browns and Gravy at Three in the morning…

  1. The Good Lord knows I’ve been to them all at 3 am. Nothing better at that time and nothing better than a greasy sandwich when you wake up.

  2. If you want to eat good brisket in Austin, you’ll do well to bring it back to town with you from Louie Mueller’s in Taylor or Blacks’s, Smitty’s or Kreuz in Lockhart, to name just a very few.

That’s Mueller as in miller and Kreuz as in sounds like kites with an “r” by the way.

Them is hard-working barbecue-before-barbecue-was-cool, working-class joints, not the super-trendy can’t barbecue without a camera filming me attention whore diva “chefs” in Austin. I’ve been told some of that is changing in Austin, but think I’ll just stand with them what has been doing it for several decades for the foreseeable future.

  3. Longhorn Barbecue in (of all places!) Spokane, Washington. Good ol’ Southern Pit barbecue, and their sauce is spread worldwide due to the proximity of the original location being just outside Fairchild AFB – the “boomer” squadron guys would take cases and cases of the sauce with ’em when they went TDY to other countries or states!

  4. On the first trip to Texas my GF’s Mom suggested we go to this all you can eat BBQ buffet. Result, I’m ruined. I won’t even touch the mustard based stuff they call BBQ in SC anymore.

  5. Phil, I’m sorry, but you’ll have to take this post down.

I am a fat slob recovering from the holidays and all these burgs and dawgs are hurting my feelings. I have to go vegan to lose weight – and I demand that all your fan boys here do the same!

    Fuck I hate health food!!!!

  6. There was this place in Reno Nevada, Landrum’s. Seven stools at the counter and that was it. Was know for always have a line to wait to be seated. One night during a raging snow storm, 12 inches on the ground and still falling, we were out drinking at 3am and wanted to test the rumor out. Yup three others already there, and the four of us full the place. Nothing like a chili/cheese omelet with fries on the side to sober you up. Good fun

  7. Korean Barbeque is OK, but I saw a video of South Koreans trying American
style Barbeque for the first time. They were gobsmacked by how good it was!
A lot of foreigners have fallen in love with our food. In America we have ham
and turkey on Christmas Day, In Japan, they wolf down KFC by the bucket.
One of my all-time favorite foods is the artery-clogging bacon-based country
gravy over freshly baked buttermilk biscuits, Done right, it is almost sweet
    enough to be a dessert!

Pansies, Trolls and Liberals are urged to flee this place.
