12 former intelligence chiefs release a statement on Trump revoking Brennan clearance

Twelve former intelligence chiefs signed and released a public letter protesting the decision by President Donald Trump to revoke the security clearance of former FBI Director John Brennan, who has been very critical of the president.

“Ill-considered and unprecedented”

“We feel compelled to respond in the wake of the ill-considered and unprecedented remarks and actions by the White House,” the letter said. “We know John to be an enormously talented, capable and patriotic individual who devoted his entire adult life to the service of this nation.”

“Insinuations and allegations of wrongdoing on the part of Brennan while in office are baseless,” it continued. “Since leaving government service, John has chosen to speak out sharply regarding what he sees as threats to our national security.”

“[W]e all agree that the president’s action regarding John Brennan and the threats of similar action against other former officials has nothing to do with who should and should not hold security clearance – and everything to do with an attempt to stifle free speech,” they added.

The contention that Trump was shutting down free speech mirrored that of former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who said Wednesday that the decision violated Brennan’s First Amendment right of free speech. Clapper was also one of the signatories.

Here’s the list of the former officials who signed the letter of protest:

3 former Directors of Central Intelligence:

William Webster

George Tenet

Porter Goss

3 former CIA directors:

Gen. Michael Hayden

Leon Panetta

Gen. David Petraeus

A former director of national intelligence:

James Clapper

4 former deputy CIA directors:

John McLaughlin

Stephen Kappes

Avril Haines

David Cohen

Michael Morell

“He’s disgraced and discredited himself”

Reports indicate that the president is eager to revoke the security clearances of other officials over their statements opposing his administration and his policies.

Trump tweeted Thursday a quote from Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch which read, “Brennan has gone off the deep end, he’s disgraced and discredited himself. His conduct has been outrageous.”

Now let me ask you a question or two.

First off, exactly what in the fuck does having a security clearance have to do with your First Amendment protections?

Secondly, why would someone who currently has no official connection to the government have or need a security clearance in the first place?

For example, why does Hillary Fucking Clinton still have a security clearance?

It is a proven fact that she has broken multiple laws concerning the handling of communications DIRECTLY affecting the security of this nation.

The former heads of the CIA talking shit here is especially egregious and galling.

Third, do you see somewhat of a pattern in this mass protest over Brennan getting his clearance yanked?

I sure as fuck do.

These people are exposing themselves in broad daylight.

This is the Deep State people and they are pissed off because one of their main players got his ass spanked very publicly.

Allow me to let you in on a little secret.

They are scared shitless.

Trump has the goods on these motherfuckers and they know it.

Watch the ones that howl the loudest.

Brennan in particular has been extremely vocal in his verbal attacks on Trump.

I would be extremely surprised if more of these former administration flunkies don’t find themselves getting their security clearances yanked here in the near future also.

Let me put it to you this way.

When you leave an employer for any reason, do they allow you to keep the keys to the front door?

Why do you think that is?

Why would you expect to keep your security clearance and have access to sensitive intelligence if you no longer held a position in government service?

Especially when it has been discovered that the administration you were a part of has been discovered to be a giant criminal enterprise?

Shit is happening behind the scenes folks. there is a huge battle going on and these occasional outbursts by these people that gets carried by a very complicit media is a sure way to tell when Trump has gotten in a good shot on them.

  1. I had a TS clearance, back in the day.

It was revoked the day I was discharged.

Your analysis of this situation nails it.
They’re butthurt, and scared, because they can see the fly swatter is going to keep descending on their ilk.

  2. What Aesop said. I had a bunch of clearances. They all got revoked the day I left the contractor. Every person I know who has worked in that world says they know if they did what Hillary did, they’d be in jail.

Supposedly, these people have their clearances in case the new administration needs them to consult, and it makes it easier. There’s not one in those 12 that should still have a clearance. Their clearance should automatically be revoked after no more than two years. I don’t even think intelligence that’s over two years old is considered useful.

  3. First off, exactly what in the fuck does having a security clearance have to do with your First Amendment protections?
Brennan in particular has been extremely vocal in his verbal attacks on Trump.

Exactly. And Brennan is still free to flap his jaws about Trump, with or without a clearance. As regards all those former CIA types criticizing the President, fuck ’em.

  4. Nope, not quite right Aesop. Unless you were chaptered out of the military in “other-than honorable” discharge your clearance should have remained active for up to two years if you received an honorable discharge. It has been that way since the 70’s.

There is a difference between revoking a clearance and de-activating a clearance. I have a Top Secret clearance that is no longer active. I worked as a government contractor for 9 years after I retired from the military. My clearance went “inactive” 2 years after I left that job. It can be reactivated with the standard periodic investigation.

A clearance that has been revoked is gone for good. It cannot be re-activated or granted again. That person will never be in a position to see classified information again.

    • No.

The TS/SCI investigation remained valid and usable for future granting of a clearance, if some company or other gobvernmental entity considered that I needed one.

The actual clearance was revoked, by name, concurrent with my discharge date, by the organization and units involved.

      Because that’s how they roll.

      • Again NOPE. With a Good conduct discharge your clearance will remain active for two years. You are also on inactive reserve subject to call up during that same time period. Your clearance is maintained due to the possible recall to military service to put you back into the shit as quick as possible.

        • Tsquared, what you wrote was how it worked when I served. SBI required every 5 years, but I still “have” a clearance today, it’s just inactive. I was discharged with an honorable discharge and signed the paperwork to deactivate it, along with all the NDAs.

          Blue Tile Spook
          Naval Security Group Activity (NSGA)

  5. The folks that I know who had/have TS have their 1st Amend. right severely limited.
Gotz to go stock up on pocorn, this is gonna be a hell of a show.

  6. had a clearance while on active duty. did nothing to have it revoked. kept the mouth shut. all was good. two years after separating, from the USAF, got word that folks on my list were being contacted by federal investigators. lots of questions from these folks. told them to not worry about it. I was informed that I was involuntary inactive reserve because of special experience identifiers on my records. interesting,. asked for clarification from Hq AFRES. and was told its not a problem for me but i just did not need to know. this went on for the next twelve years, seems like they kept a closer watch than normal. been finished with all that for many years now but i still remember the rules.
i would bet good yankee money that political hacks never get a real review and that even if they did they would get pencil whipped thru it.

  7. Note, having TS clearance means that you can be surveiled by the gov’t with out a court order. They were kept on the list to do just that. Potus has everything on these lying, thieving bastards and when they have enough, the TS is pulled. Brennan is going down. To the twelve idiots on the letter, if your TS is yanked then they are fitting you for an orange jump suit.

    Spin Drift

  8. All the protesters are fucking Commies. Trump should pull all of their clearances in on fell swoop. Fuck Them. Its amazing to me that the NFL doesn’t have Brennan and Obama do the Coin Toss for one of these games. Its been 2 years since I watched a N(not) F(for) L(long) game. they can kiss me where the sun don’t shine and that goes for all the white and black shines that play.

  9. No great loss, as I see it.
    John Brennan;
Was CIA Station Chief in Saudi Arabia when the Khobar Towers were bombed.
Was Deputy Director of the Agency on 9/11.
He was CIA Chief of Staff during the Iraq WMD debacle.
AND, he ran the CIA when it spied on Congress, which he LIED ABOUT UNDER OATH.

Lost his Clearance? The SOB should be sitting in a Penitentiary.

  10. Caught an interesting bit on the radio today I hadn’t thought about…all these guys that are out getting jobs in related industries after they leave government need to keep those clearances or they aren’t worth anything to those companies. e.g. The AF general that goes to work for Lockheed. They are screaming ’cause it hit ’em hard in the pocketbook. No clearance, no cushy, high dollar job.

    Liked by 2 people

      Gentlemen, we have a winner.
THIS, is what has all of these traitorous Commie bastards panicking.
Trump hit that motherfucker Brennan right where it hurts the most, in his wallet.
The rest of them see the consequences of that like a Zebra herd watching a pack of Lions ripping the guts out of one of their little buddies.

  11. Had clearances several times, at several levels. They all went “inactive” after I left the company that had requested them. The entire time my clearances was active, I was required to take training sessions twice a year to keep us reminded of the responsibility the clearance came with, and to inform us of any changes in the laws, regulations, and/or procedures.

To allow these people to keep their clearance, without good cause, is bad juju……

“Director Brennan’s recent statements purport to know as fact that the Trump campaign colluded with a foreign power. If Director Brennan’s statement is based on intelligence he received while still leading the CIA, why didn’t he include it in the Intelligence Community Assessment released in 2017? If his statement is based on intelligence he has seen since leaving office, it constitutes an intelligence breach. If he has some other personal knowledge of or evidence of collusion, it should be disclosed to the Special Counsel, not The New York Times.”

    Those are NOT insignificant points.

  13. Money is a big one, as some of you have said, but another real hamstring is that it’s now illegal for Brennan to get his Cabal briefings. These guys are getting their access cut off, and they know this shuts them down and cuts them out of a lot of loops.

  14. Manacles, ankle-irons, rope, clergy of their choice, blindfolds, cigarettes…
A vacation to a beautiful desert island paradise, all expenses paid for life! Crabs, spiders, biting flies, roaches, lizards, rats and cactus! Steep rocky cliffs leading down to turquoise waters, teeming with vicious bull sharks!

  15. I worked 20+ years in the grocery business. By the time I left anyone in management who gave two weeks notice of intent to quit was immediately led to the door and informed that any of their personal belongings would be sent to them. They got their two weeks pay. Just not two more weeks access to the computer system. Why isn’t the Imperial Federal Government following these protocols? Just think about how much damage these 12 fine folk could have done since their release.

  16. “Now let me ask you a question or two.

First off, exactly what in the fuck does having a security clearance have to do with your First Amendment protections?

Secondly, why would someone who currently has no official connection to the government have or need a security clearance in the first place?”
I have a third question, based on the following statement that these people made:
“Insinuations and allegations of wrongdoing on the part of Brennan while in office are baseless….”

The question is, “How in the Hell do ANY of you KNOW what this guy did in office – aren’t the actions of the Director of the CIA, uh, SECRET?” So, either they had information about which they had no right to know, or they are a bunch of partisan, lying, sacks of shit. FWIW, I’m going with Door #2.
