It’s been a long, long time but I finally get to go see the band again that really pushed me over the edge and turned me into a complete fucking Metal Head 40 years ago.
It’s a bittersweet moment for me though, neither one of the original guitarists will be there.
K.K. Downing quit the band several years ago and that hurt me something fierce.
He was the soul of Judas Priest and his guitar work ranks up there in the Greatest Of All Time as far as I am concerned. If you don’t believe me then I suggest you watch some live performances from ten years ago. The man was awesome in the truest sense of the word.
Even worse, the virtuoso magnifico, Glenn Tipton was forced to retire in just the last couple of months because of a worsening case of Parkinson’s.
I did not find that out until just a couple of weeks ago.
I also just finished watching their performance in Washington D.C. from last month on Youtube and I gotta say that to a life long fan like myself, the show may go on but the magic is gone.
That being said, it is still going to be a hell of a concert and there is something else that is going to make it extra special for me.
I got 4 tickets from the Wifely Unit for Christmas and I am taking both my daughters and my son to go see it tonight. This is going to be a blast.
It may be the last time Judas Priest comes around these parts and something else that is going to make it special is that they are playing at the old Portland Coliseum, where I have seen them twice before, way the hell back in the 80’s.
I didn’t even know they still had concerts at the old concrete box.
It’s got shit for acoustics but as loud as they play that ain’t gonna make a damn bit of difference.
I am very much looking forward to seeing this and I am going to spend way the fuck too much money on T shirts and shit but like I said, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they never get back to Portland again.
They usually go up North to Tacoma although I did see them about ten years ago at the little grass bowl amphitheater over here at the Fair Grounds.
As was my everyday thing back then, I was drunk on my ass and don’t remember it real well but this time I sure as shit will.
